Argentina: “Lontani ma Vicini” come dice il Centro Umbro di Buenos Aires, grazie allo Zoom

Il nuovo articolo Paolo Cinarelli ci fa vedere un’altra faccia della comunità italiana in Argentina oggi. Questa volta vediamo il ruolo dei giovani italo-argentini nel rilanciare la loro comunità dall’emergenza sanitaria del covid19.

Questo articolo ci fa capire due cose. La prima certamente è che le associazioni italiane hanno un ruolo importante in queste comunità e che dobbiamo ricordarci di loro quando parliamo dell’emigrazionne italiana in giro per il mondo. Però, questo serve anche per introdurre il secondo aspetto che fin troppo spesso viene ignorato.

Queste iniziative sono svolte dai giovani italo-argentini. In questo ci dimostrano chiaramente che hanno voglia di fare e di esaltare i loro legami con il paese dei loro genitori/nonni. Infatti, questo aspetto dovrebbe fare molto pensare noi in Italia quando parliamo degli italiani nel mondo perché abbiamo il vizio di pensare a loro come gli emigrati e dimentichiamo che ci sono anche e soprattutto i loro figli e discendenti che hanno voglia di tenere contatti con il loro paese d’origine.

Come prova della nostra “cecità” verso questo fenomeno dobbiamo solo porci una domanda; tra i parlamentari eletti nelle circoscrizioni estere al Parlamento italiano, quanti di loro sono di prima di generazione, cioè emigrati, e quanti nati e cresciuti nei paesi che rappresentano? La risposta è semplice, sono tutti emigrati. Ricordando che nei paesi di emigrazione italiana le generazioni di discendenti sono alla quarta generazione, e in molti paesi anche la settima e oltre, estendiamo la domanda dei parlamentari anche ai CGIE e i Comites che rappresentano le comunità italiane all’estero e domandiamoci di nuovo, come fanno questi gruppi a rappresentare in modo efficace le loro comunità quando i loro componenti fanno parte di una minoranza della loro comunità?

Se davvero vogliamo scambi efficaci e longevi tra il Bel Paese e i nostri parenti e amici all’estero è ora che cominciamo a capire che dobbiamo ascoltare tutte le voci delle nostre comunità all’estero, a partire dai giovani, invece di dimenticare una realtà molto profonda, che ormai i veri rappresentanti delle nostre comunità non sono più gli emigrati, bensì i loro discendenti e che dobbiamo finalmente dare loro una voce vera e la possibilità di conoscere e capire le loro origini e aiutare loro a tenersi in contatto con il loro comune paese d’origine.

Nemmeno la pandemia è riuscita a fermare i giovani delle nostre associazioni. In un primo momento, ha sorpreso tutti e ha paralizzato le attività. Durante i primi quindici giorni di lock down le persone sono rimaste in casa quasi in attesa, probabilmente speravano che il virus sparisse così com’era arrivato. Poi la voglia di vivere ha preso il sopravvento e i giovani delle varie associazioni italiane, nell’impossibilità di realizzare incontri e manifestazioni in presenza, hanno reagito ed hanno organizzato una dopo l’altra riunioni virtuali, usando gli strumenti della moderna tecnologia. L’attività è stata ed è molto intensa, ed è l’espressione di un modo nuovo di incontrarsi e organizzare programmi futuri.

Mariel Pitton Straface che con il fratello Leandro, è uno dei cardini della gioventù calabrese di Buenos Aires, ha affermato: ”Quest’anno abbiamo fatto quattro #tanoffice di cui gli ultimi tre virtuali”. E’ stata lei che li ha presentati e condotti e con la sua grazia e simpatia li ha resi gradevoli e ameni. Tra i molti partecipanti all’incontro Zoom del quattro luglio, c’era anche il console della città di Buenos Aires, Antonio Puggioni, e tra le persone che hanno preso la parola Edda Cinarelli, ha detto “Voi giovani conoscete il linguaggio delle reti e siete un motore fondamentale nella diffusione dell’italianità. Per favore, non dimenticatevi di noi, che vi abbiamo preceduto e abbiamo lavorato per gli italiani in Argentina in modo del tutto vocazionale”.

Di zoom e riunioni virtuali conosce molto Lourdes Arena, esperta in marketing digitale e community manager di Passione Tricolore, convocata dalla stessa Cinarelli per la messa in sesto della piattaforma Italiani a Buenos Aires, che sabato 18 luglio, due settimane dopo, ha realizzato la sua prima riunione virtuale. “E’ stato un successo – racconta Edda – ci hanno partecipato molti esponenti della comunità italiana in Argentina ed è stata l’occasione di ripensare a noi stessi e alla nostra comunità. Grazie a tutti i partecipanti per la loro assistenza e a Lourdes per lo stimolo e l’appoggio che è sempre disposta a offrire.”

Tra gli attivi ci sono oltre ai giovani dell’Associazione Calabrese, a Passione Tricolore, a Italiani a Buenos Aires, i giovani di Feditalia, con a capo Florencia Caretti, e il Centro Umbro di Buenos Aires. Marcelo Lucarini, di quest’ultimo centro, dice: “Abbiamo realizzato la nostra prima esperienza d’incontro virtuale il 2 Giugno scorso per celebrare il Giorno della Repubblica Italiana e quello del migrante italiano. Si sono mostrati video e si è parlato tra noi. Visto il successo, abbiamo continuato a organizzare conferenze attraverso Facebook Live della Pagina Centro Umbro Buenos Aires, usando la piattaforma StreamYard. Abbiamo concretizzato riunioni virtuali tra umbri che vivono a Buenos Aires e umbri che vivono in Umbria, nella cornice del ciclo “Lontani ma Vicini”. Anna Castellani, del Ristorante L´altro mondo di Perugia, ha dato una lezione di cucina umbra e il promotore del territorio umbro Luca D’Amato, nella cornice del ciclo “De paseo por Italia” (In una passeggiata in Italia), ha tenuto una conferenza su Città di Castello e un’altra su Castelluccio di Norcia. Entrambi appartengono al Circolo Virtuale Eburneo di Perugia. Da parte mia ho parlato su l’Associazionismo e il Centro Umbro di Buenos Aires, e con Claudia Rossi, vicepresidente del Centro Umbro e conduttrice del programma radiofonico, “L`Ombelico del Mondo”, ho tenuto una conferenza sui Santi e le Sante famosi dell’Umbria. Il 23 luglio, il Centro Umbro ha realizzato un altro Zoom per festeggiare il giorno dell’amico, 20 luglio. Così Il lock down invece di fermare le attività della nostra collettività è stato spunto di creatività e di sviluppo di riunioni per la promozione della cultura italiana all’estero”.

Argentina: “Far away but Close” as Buenos Aires’ Umbrian Centre says thanks to Zoom

Paolo Cinarelli’s new article lets us see another face of the Italian community in Argentina today. This time we see the role of young Italo-Argentineans in reviving their community from the covid-19 health emergency.

This article lets understand two things. The first is certainly that the Italian associations play a major role in these communities and that we must remember them when we talk about Italian migration around the world. However, this also serves to introduce the second aspect that is all too often ignored.

These initiatives are carried out by young Italo-Argentineans. With this they clearly show their desire to act and to enhance their ties with the country of their parents/grandparents. In fact, this aspect should make us in Italy think seriously when we talk about the Italians around the world because we have the bad habit of thinking of them only as migrants and we forget that there are also and above all their children and descendants who have the will to maintain contact with their country of origin.

As proof of our “blindness” towards this phenomenon we only have to ask ourselves one question: amongst the parliamentarians from the overseas electorates in Italy’s Parliament, how many of them are first generation, that is emigrants, and how many born and raised in the countries they represent? The answer is simple, they are all emigrants. Also remembering that in the countries of Italian migration the generations of descendants are at the fourth generation at least and also the seventh and beyond in many cases, we extend the question about the parliamentarians also to the CGIE (General Council of the Italians Overseas) and the Comites (Committees of Italians Overseas at a consular level) that represent the Italian communities overseas and let us ask ourselves another question, how do these groups represent their communities in an effective way when their members are part of a minority within their community?

If we really want effective and long term exchanges between Italy and our relatives and friends overseas it is time that we started to understand that we must listen to all the voices of our communities overseas starting with the young people, instead of forgetting a very profound reality, that now the true representatives of our communities are no longer the emigrants but rather their descendants and that we must finally give them a true voice and the possibility to know and understand their origins and to help them keep in touch with their common country of origin.

Argentina: “Far away is Close” as Buenos Aires’ Umbrian Centre says, thanks to Zoom

Not even the pandemic managed to put a stop to the young people of our associations. From the first instant the virus surprised everybody and paralyzed the activities. During the first fortnight of the lockdown the people stayed home almost in expectation, probably hoping that the virus would disappear like it had come. And then the will to live took over and the young people of the various Italian associations, in the impossibility of holding meetings and events in person, reacted and organized virtual meetings, one after another, using the tools of modern technology. These activities were and are very intense and they are the expression of a new way of meeting and organizing future programmes.

Mariel Pitton Straface who, with her brother Leandro, is one of the cornerstones of Buenos Aires’ Calabrese youth, stated: “This year we held four #tanoffice, of which the last three were virtual”. It was she who presented and conducted them and with her grace and sympathy made them pleasant. One of the participants of the meeting was also Antonio Poggioni, Italy’s Consul to the City of Buenos Aires and one of the people who spoke was Edda Cinarelli who said: “You young people know the language of the net and you are the fundamental engine for spreading the Italian spirit.  Please, don’t forget about us who preceded you and who worked for the Italians in Argentina in a completely instinctive way”.

Lourdes Arena, an expert in digital marketing and the community manager of Passione Tricolore who knows a lot about Zoom and virtual meetings, was convened by Edda Cinarelli to set up the first virtual meeting. “It was a success,” said Edda, “many exponents of Argentina’s Italian community took part and it was the occasion to rethink about ourselves and our community. Thank you to all the participants for their assistance and to Lourdes for the stimulus and the support that we have always been willing to offer”.

In addition to the young people of the Calabrese Association, Passione Tricolore and the “Italiani a Buenos Aires”, some of those active in the events were the young people of Feditalia led by Florencia Caretti and the Umbrian Centre of Buenos Aires. Marcelo Lucarini, of the latter centre said: “We had our first virtual meeting on June 2 to celebrate Italy’s Republic Day and the Day of the Italian Migrant. We screened videos and we discussed together. Seeing the success, we continued to organize conferences through Facebook Live from the Centro Umbro Buenos Aires’ Facebook page using the StreamYard platform. We organized virtual meetings between the Umbrians who live in Buenos Aires and those who live in Umbria in Italy in the setting of the “Far away but close” cycle. Anna Castellani of the restaurant “L’altro mondo” in Perugia gave a lesson on Umbrian cooking and Luca D’Amato, the promoter of the Umbrian territory, in the setting of the “De paseo por Italia” (On a walk in Italy) cycle held a conference on Città di Castello and another on Casteluccio di Norcia. For my part I spoke about the associations and Buenos Aires’ Umbrian Centre and with Claudia Rossi, vice President of the Umbrian Centre and presenter of the radio programme “L’Ombelico del Mondo” (The World’s Navel) I held a conference of the famous Saints of Umbria. On July 23 the Umbrian Centre held another Zoom to celebrate the Day of the Friend of July 20. So, instead of stopping our community’s activities, the lockdown was the starting point for creativity and the development of meetings for the promotion of Italian Culture overseas.
