La chimera della “grande sostituzione”
Il 15 marzo 2019, un estremista australiano, Brenton Tarrant, ha compiuto due stragi a moschee a Christchurch in Nuova Zelanda. Il costo in vite di queste stragi è stato di 51 morti e 40 feriti. Condannato poi all’ergastolo, Tarrant non solo ha trasmesso via internet gli orrendi attacchi, ma ha lasciato un “manifesto” spiegando i motivi delle sue azioni e ha detto esplicitamente che erano per prevenire la “grande sostituzione”, cioè la sostituzione di bianchi con gente di colore. E l’assurdità di questo è che Tarrant stesso è il discendente di immigrati.
Questa teoria è stata anche la motivazione delle azioni da parte di altri attentatori di scuole, chiese e altri luoghi negli Stati Uniti e ripetuta regolarmente ormai nei social che sono diventati i mezzi di spargere questa teoria complottista nel mondo.
E recentemente questa frase ha persino fatto parte del dibattito politico anche in Italia.
Purtroppo, in ogni popolazione esiste una minoranza, spesso vocale e non raramente violenta, che ha paura dei nuovi arrivati nei loro paesi e la teoria è attraente perché conferma, nella loro mente, la legittimità delle loro idee e quindi “giustifica” le azioni dei credenti più violenti.
Come spiega la Treccani il termine di grand remplacement (grande sostituzione) è stato coniato in Francia negli anni ’70 da un sindaco per commentare una foto del suo paese che mostrava la presenza di molti concittadini di pelle scura. Nel 2007, sempre in Francia, il filosofo Reynaud Camus ha scritto un libro “Le grand remplacement” che ritiene che “l’Europa cristiana” sia “invasa da masse di immigrati di colore e religione musulmana dall’Africa settentrionale e subsahariana”.
Questa teoria si è sparsa prima in Europa e poi in altri paesi, e adattata poi da politici che utilizzano le paure della parte razzista dei loro paesi per i propri programmi politici, particolarmente dall’estrema destra, tutto seguito poi da attentati, non solo in Nuova Zelanda e gli Stati Uniti, ma in altri paesi.
Disgraziatamente, teorie del genere non tengono conto di due fatti incontrovertibili. Il primo, che la Storia dell’Uomo è la Storia della sua emigrazione partendo da un punto comune, e arrivando in ogni continente. Perciò, un italiano che va a fare la prova del DNA scopre tracce di altri gruppi, persino asiatiche.
Il secondo è ancora più importante e rilevante, è che non esistono diverse razze di esseri umani, siamo tutti biologicamente della stessa razza con i cambi di colore di pelle, ecc., che distinguono i vari rami di questa famiglia enorme e dovuti alle condizioni climatiche delle zone dove si sono stabiliti.
E ogni immigrato e figlio d’immigrato sin dall’inizio della Storia dell’Uomo ha subito l’odio, i pregiudizi e le discriminazioni degli autoctoni che hanno paura dei nuovi residenti. E non scrivo in linea teoretica, ma da figlio di emigrati italiani soggetto alle conseguenze di questa paura…
E l’aspetto più assurdo di questa concezione europea è che, nel corso della Storia dell’Uomo, solo un regime ha tentato di mettere in atto il “grande rimpiazzamento” che era una parte centrale delle “teorie” del suo capo supremo. Ed è successo nel ‘900 e non da parte di un regime africano, o asiatico, ma da una dittatura europea…
Nel suo libro “Mein Kampf” (La mia battaglia), scritto mentre era in galera dopo il fallito golpe del 1923 conosciuto come il “Putsch di Monaco”, Adolph Hitler ha utilizzato la frase “lebensraum” per definire lo “spazio vitale” che era il diritto degli ariani, di cui i tedeschi erano l’esempio supremo, e questo spazio era l’Europa Orientale che è poi stato proprio il luogo di battaglia che ha portato alla sconfitta della dittatura hitleriana che l’aveva invasa per “realizzare il sogno” del dittatore.
Nel caso dei nazisti, il soggetto principale di queste idee erano ovviamente gli ebrei ed è stato il motivo dei campi di concentramento dove oltre sei milioni di loro sono stati massacrati. Ma troppo spesso dimentichiamo che tra le vittime di questi campi non c’erano solo gli ebrei, ma anche i gruppi che troppi definiscono con disprezzo “zingari”, comprese le popolazioni dell’Europa orientale che dovevano diventare i servi dei loro nuovi feudatari ariani, e persino gli omosessuali.
E bisogna notare che tutte questi gruppi religiosi ed etnie sono spesso bersagliati ancora da politici che hanno adottato la teoria della “grande sostituzione”. Infatti, non è un caso che l’unica persona nominata, senza alcuna prova, come il “mandante” del complotto di eliminare i bianchi sia George Soros, un ebreo ungherese ora residente negli Stati Uniti.
Queste teorie complottistiche ora girano sui social dove pagine private sono create da chi condivide le teorie estremiste di ogni genere. Queste pagine rinforzano le idee e le paure degli iscritti ed infatti, nei casi degli attentati, i responsabili hanno lunghe storie di partecipazione attiva in questi gruppi. E Brenton Tarrant a Christchurch ha mostrato questo aspetto fin troppo bene trasmettendo dal vivo i suoi attacchi alle moschee neozelandesi e diventando “l’eroe” dei complottisti.
Ma nel porre il problema bisogna trovarne anche la soluzione, principalmente perché è impossibile dimostrare che qualcosa non esiste.
La risposta più ovvia a questo problema è l’educazione, perché fare capire alle nuove generazioni non solo la Storia, ma anche la scienza che dimostra che siamo tutti essere umani, è l’unica risposta vera a teorie senza base scientifica, però, da sola l’educazione non basta.
La Stampa del mondo avrebbe anche un ruolo importantissimo in questa soluzione, ma una parte non indifferente della stampa, non solo giornali e riviste, ma anche e soprattutto la televisione, utilizza questi complotti, e/o le paure del pubblico che ci crede, per fare spettacolo, spesso per motivi di introiti pubblicitari.
Inoltre, è ora che smettiamo di utilizzare epiteti non proprio gentili, oppure addirittura ingannevoli, per descrivere i nuovi arrivati in ogni paese perché, nell’utilizzare queste parole diventa più facile non considerarli quel che sono in realtà, altri esseri umani con i nostri stessi diritti e doveri, compreso il rispetto delle leggi locali e l’imparare i valori fondamentali contenuti nella Costituzione, l’insegnamento della quale dovrebbe fare parte della procedura di integrazione nel paese. Infatti, questi epiteti sono probabilmente l’aspetto più umiliante su come vengono trattati e spesso crea i problemi che portano a scontri tra autoctoni e gruppi di immigrati.
Nell’automaticamente timbrare i nuovi arrivati come “clandestini”, persino nella stampa e da parte dei politici, si dimentica, oppure si cerca di fare dimenticare, che l’Articolo 10 della nostra Costituzione garantisce il diritto d’asilo a chi fugge da discriminazioni di ogni genere e quindi bisogna accertare lo stato di ciascun nuovo immigrato prima di dichiarare che sia “clandestino”.
E a coloro che dicono che questa gente sia composta da “emigrati economici in cerca di lavoro” vorremmo rammentare che questo valeva anche per i molti milioni dei nostri emigrati nel corso degli ultimi 150 e più anni, perché scappavano da un paese che non aveva lavoro per loro…
La riposta al problema della “grande sostituzione” non è certamente di far finta che non ci sia un problema perché ogni strage, ogni morto e ogni ferito in questi attentati non fa altro che farci ricordare che c’è gente tra di noi pronta a “combattere” contro un male inesistente, semplicemente perché è conforme a quel che loro definiscono una “minaccia”.
Tristemente, la risposta più efficace sarebbe di non credere a ogni cosa che si legge suoi social, ma questa è una battaglia che si può fare solo nelle aule delle scuole, e nel corso del tempo, perché è troppo tardi ormai per l’adulto che già crede ciecamente in queste teorie.

On March 15, 2019, Australian extremist Brenton Tarrant carried out two massacres in mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. The cost of these massacres in lives was 51 dead and 40 injured. Subsequently condemned to life in prison, Tarrant not only broadcast the horrendous attacks online, but he even left a “manifesto” explaining the reasons for his actions and he said explicitly that they were to prevent the “great replacement”, in other words, the substitution of white people with people of colour. And the absurdity of this is that Tarrant himself is the descendant of immigrants.
This theory was also the motivation of actions by other attackers on schools, churches, and other places in the United States and now repeated regularly on the social media which have become the means of spreading this conspiracy theory around the world.
And recently this phrase even played a part in political debate also in Italy.
Unfortunately, every population has a minority, often vocal and not infrequently violent, that is scared of the new arrivals in their countries and the theory is attractive because it confirms, in their minds, the legitimacy of their ideas and therefore “justifies” the actions of the more violent believers.
As Italy’s Treccani Encyclopaedia explains, the term “grand remplacement” (great replacement) was coined in France by a mayor commenting a photo of his town that showed the presence of many dark-skinned citizens. In 2007, again in France, the philosopher Reynaud Camus wrote a book “Le grand remplacement” which states the “Christian Europe” is being “overrun by masses of immigrants of colour and Moslem religion from North and Sub-Saharan Africa”.
And this theory spread first in France and then to other countries, and adopted by politicians who use the fears of the racist part of their countries for their political agendas, especially by the extreme right, all followed by attacks, not only in New Zealand and the United States, but in other countries.
Regrettably, theories of this kind fail to take into account two incontrovertible facts. The first, that the history of Mankind is the history of its migration, starting from a common point, reaching into every continent. Hence, an Italian who has a DNA test discovers traces of other groups, even Asian.
The second is even more important and relevant, there are no different races of human beings, we are all biologically of the same race with the changes of skin colour, etc, which distinguish the various branches of this huge family caused by climatic conditions in the areas where they settled.
And every immigrant and child of immigrants from the beginning of the history of Mankind has suffered the hatred, prejudices and discrimination of the natives who are scared of the new residents. And I do not write of theory, but as the son of Italian immigrants subjected to the consequences of these fears…
And the most absurd aspect of this European concept is that, over the history of Mankind, only one regime had attempted to put the “great replacement” into action, and it was a central part of the “theories” of its supreme leader. This happened in the twentieth century and not by an African or Asian regime but by a European dictatorship…
In his book “Mein Kampf” (My struggle), written while he was in jail after the failed coup d’état known as the “Beer hall putsch” of Munich, Adolph Hitler used the word “lebensraum” to define the “living space” that was the right of every Aryan, of which the Germans were the supreme example, and this space was Eastern Europe which then became the very battleground which led to the defeat of Hitler’s Germany which had invaded it to make the dictator’s dream “come true”.
In the case of the Nazis, the main subject of these ideas were obviously the Jews, and this was the reason for the concentration camps where more than six million of them were massacred. But too often we forget that amongst the victims of these camps were not only the Jews but also the groups that too many people contemptuously call “zingari” (gypsies), including the populations of Eastern Europe which would have become the serfs of the new Aryan feudal lords, and even homosexuals.
And it must be noted that these religious and ethnic groups are still often targeted by politicians who have adopted the “great substation” theory. Indeed, it is not a coincidence that the only person mentioned, without any evicence, as the “mastermind” of the conspiracy to eliminate white people is George Soros, a Hungarian Jew now resident in the United States.
These conspiracy theories are now doing the rounds of the social media where private pages have been created by those who share every kind of extremist theories. These pages reinforce the ideas and the fears of the members and indeed, in the cases of the attacks, those responsible have long histories of active participation in these groups. And at Christchurch Brenton Tarrant showed this aspect all too well by broadcasting his attacks on the mosques in New Zealand live, becoming the “hero” of the conspiracy theorists.
But, in posing this problem we must find a solution, mainly because it is impossible to demonstrate that something does not exist.
The most obvious response to this problem is education because making new generations understand not only history, but also the science that demonstrates we are all human beings, is the only response to theories without a solid footing in reality or science. However, education on its own is not enough.
The world’s Press should also play an important role in this solution, but a not indifferent part of the Press, not only newspapers and magazines, but also and above all television, use these conspiracy theories and/or the fears of the public who believe in them, to put on a show, often for the sake of revenue.
Furthermore, it is time what we stop using not very nice or outright deceptive epithets, to describe the new arrivals into the country because, in using these words it becomes easier to not consider them for what they really are, other human beings with our same rights and duties, including respect for local laws and learning the fundamental values contained in Italy’s Constitution, the teaching of which should form part of the procedures on integration into the country. In fact, these epithets are probably the most demeaning aspect of how they are treated, and this often causes problems that lead to clashes between natives and groups of immigrants.
In automatically labelling immigrants as “illegal”, even by the Press and politicians, we forget, or even try to make people forget, that Article 10 of Italy’s Constitution guarantees the right of asylum to those who are running away from persecution of every kind and therefore it is necessary to ascertain the status of every new immigrant before declaring them as “illegal”.
And to those who say that these people are made up of “economic migrants looking for work”, we would like to remind them that this was also true for the many millions of our migrants over the last 150 and more years because they were running away from a country that had no work for them…
The answer to the problem of the “great substitution” is certainly not in pretending that it is not a problem because every massacre, every death, and every injured person in those attacks does nothing but remind us that there are people amongst us who are ready to “fight” against a non-existent evil simply because it conforms to what they call a “threat”.
Sadly, the most effective response would be not to believe everything one reads on the social media, but this is a battle that can only be fought in the classroom, and over time, because it is now too late for the adults who already blindly believe in these theories.
