Una delegazione dell’Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA), guidata dal Presidente Michael G. Polo, dal Presidente della Sons of Italy Foundation Joseph Sciame, il National 1st Vice President Thomas A. Lupo, il National 3rd Vice President Dr. Mark DeNunzio, la National Executive Director Shayla Kaestle e Dan Kaestle co-chair del National Membership Committee, ha compiuto una visita ufficiale presso l’Arciconfraternita di S.M. Odigitria dei Siciliani a Roma. Ad accompagnare la delegazione Carmelo Cutuli, fondatore e past-presidente del primo capitolo OSDIA italiano e membro dell’Arciconfraternita.
La visita ha avuto luogo presso la storica Chiesa di Santa Maria Odigitria dei Siciliani nella centrale Via del Tritone, dove la delegazione è stata accolta dal Primicerio dell’Arciconfraternita, Monsignor Renzo Giuliano. L’incontro ha rappresentato un momento di profondo significato, volto a rafforzare i legami tra la comunità italo-americana e le radici culturali e spirituali siciliane.
“Questo incontro – ha dichiarato il Primicerio Mons. Giuliano – mi riempie il cuore di gioia, in quanto occasione per rafforzare i nostri legami di amicizia e di fede. Spero che questa visita sia solo l’inizio di un cammino di scambio e collaborazione che possa continuare nel tempo, anche a distanza. Auspico pertanto che i rapporti tra l’Arciconfraternita di Santa Maria Odigitria dei Siciliani e l’OSDIA possano rinnovarsi e approfondirsi negli anni a venire, attraverso iniziative congiunte, momenti di preghiera e di riflessione condivisi, anche se fisicamente lontani.”
Durante la visita, la delegazione OSDIA, che in mattinata aveva partecipato all’audizione papale – ha avuto l’opportunità di ammirare la bellezza e la ricchezza storica della Chiesa dei Siciliani, un luogo di grande importanza per la comunità siciliana a Roma. Successivamente, i membri della delegazione hanno partecipato ai Vespri insieme alla delegazione di Vescovi siciliani, presenti a Roma per la Visita Ad Limina Apostolorum dal Santo Padre. La partecipazione congiunta ai Vespri ha sottolineato l’unità e la condivisione spirituale tra la comunità italo-americana e la Chiesa siciliana, rafforzando ulteriormente i legami tra le due realtà.
La delegazione italoamericana ha quindi espresso la propria gratitudine all’Arciconfraternita di S.M. Odigitria dei Siciliani per l’accoglienza e l’opportunità di vivere questa significativa esperienza di scambio culturale e spirituale. La visita rappresenta un passo importante nel consolidamento delle relazioni tra l’OSDIA – presente in Italia con capitoli nelle città di Roma e Palermo – e le istituzioni religiose e culturali siciliane, promuovendo la preservazione e la valorizzazione del patrimonio comune.
La visita ufficiale della delegazione continuerà con la consegna della Charter, ossia la bolla di fondazione, del nuovo Capitolo “Pantheon” OSDIA di Roma alla Presidente Arch. Patrizia Bernardette Berardi e con incontri istituzionali nella Capitale, per poi proseguire alla volta di Palermo dove è presente il Capitolo OSDIA “Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro”, intitolato al fondatore dell’organizzazione, nativo di Polizzi Generosa, emigrato negli Stati Uniti sul finire del XIX secolo.
Official visit of an OSDIA delegation to the Archconfraternity of S.M. Odigitria of Sicilians in Rome
A delegation of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA), led by President Michael G. Polo, President of the Sons of Italy Foundation Joseph Sciame, National 3rd Vice President Thomas A. Lupo, National 1st Vice President Dr. Mark DeNunzio, National Executive Director Shayla Kaestle and Dan Kaestle co-chair of the National Membership Committee, paid an official visit to the Archconfraternity of S.M. Odigitria of Sicilians in Rome. Accompanying the delegation was Carmelo Cutuli, founder and past president of the first Italian OSDIA chapter and member of the Archconfraternity.
The visit took place at the historic Church of Santa Maria Odigitria of Sicilians in the central Via del Tritone, where the delegation was welcomed by the Primicerium of the Archconfraternity, Monsignor Renzo Giuliano. The meeting was a moment of profound significance, aimed at strengthening ties between the Italian-American community and Sicilian cultural and spiritual roots.
“This meeting,” said the Primicerium Monsignor Giuliano, “fills my heart with joy, as it is an opportunity to strengthen our bonds of friendship and faith. I hope that this visit is only the beginning of a path of exchange and cooperation that can continue over time, even at a distance. I therefore hope that the relationship between the Archconfraternity of Saint Mary Odigitria of the Sicilians and OSDIA can be renewed and deepened in the years to come, through joint initiatives, moments of prayer and shared reflection, even if physically distant.”
During the visit, the OSDIA delegation, which had attended the papal hearing in the morning – had the opportunity to admire the beauty and historical richness of the Church of the Sicilians, a place of great importance for the Sicilian community in Rome. Afterwards, the members of the delegation participated in Vespers together with the delegation of Sicilian Bishops, who were present in Rome for the Ad Limina Apostolorum Visit by the Holy Father. The joint participation at Vespers underlined the unity and spiritual sharing between the Italian-American community and the Sicilian Church, further strengthening the ties between the two realities.
The Italo-American delegation then expressed its gratitude to the Archconfraternity of S.M. Odigitria of Sicilians for the welcome and the opportunity to live this significant experience of cultural and spiritual exchange. The visit represents an important step in the consolidation of relations between the OSDIA – present in Italy with chapters in the cities of Rome and Palermo – and Sicilian religious and cultural institutions, promoting the preservation and enhancement of the common heritage.
The delegation’s official visit will continue with the handing over of the Charter, the founding bull, of the new OSDIA ‘Pantheon’ Chapter in Rome to the President, Patrizia Bernardette Berardi, and with institutional meetings in the capital, before continuing on to Palermo, where the OSDIA ‘Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro’ Chapter is located, named after the organisation’s founder, a native of Polizzi Generosa who emigrated to the United States at the end of the 19th century.
