L’Anno che verrà
In attesa del 2025 vogliamo presentare ai nostri lettori all’estero la canzone che viene cantata in Italia ad ogni Capodanno.
“L’anno che verrà” di Lucio Dalla, uscita nel 1979, riassume i timori di un futuro incerto, però, dando speranza che, “secondo la televisione” come dice la canzone, nell’anno nuovo arriveranno novità che renderanno la vita più felice.
Questa canzone ha un significato particolare per gli italiani all’estero perché prende la forma di una lettera a un amico che si trova “molto lontano” e inizia con i timori per lo stato in cui si trova perché c’è “qualcosa che non va”. E qui ci vuole poco per capire che il destinatario è in un altro paese.
Infatti, una delle cose che crea problemi tra chi è in Italia e chi si trova all’estero è che l’emigrato non vede i cambi in Italia nel corso del tempo, mentre i parenti/amici in Italia sanno poco o niente di quel che l’emigrato e la sua famiglia stanno passando nel nuovo paese.
A differenza di “Imagine” del grande John Lennon in inglese, la canzone simbolo del futuro nel mondo anglofono, Dalla non sogna un “mondo perfetto” ma guarda ai piccoli, ma fondamentali, cambi che renderebbero la vita più facile per ciascuno di noi.
Questo cambi non sono di poco conto, perché, in molti casi, partendo da “E si farà l’amore ognuno come gli va”, oppure che i “preti potranno sposarsi”, anche se “soltanto a una certa età”, tratta temi di insofferenza di cambi che molti non vogliono vedere nella società, ma che, allo stesso tempo, sono infatti una realtà di molti nostri parenti e amici, e perciò i commenti riflettono come la nostra mentalità verso gli altri deve cambiare per vedere questo mondo nuovo ne “L’anno che verrà” …
Gli augurii che fa per l’anno nuovo sono i simboli per cambi nei problemi nell’Italia dell’epoca, ma sono simboli perfetti per rappresentare le difficoltà quotidiane che disturbano la vita, sia a lavoro che a casa.
Allora, ascoltiamo questa canzone bellissima, e importante non solo per la musica italiana, ma anche per la nostra Cultura.
Ora, cogliamo questa occasione per presentare altre due canzoni di Lucio Dalla che, purtroppo, non è mai stato conosciuto nel mondo a livello che il suo talento avrebbe meritato in vita.
Paradossalmente, nel presentare la musica di Lucio Dalla, il secondo brano è conosciuto a livello internazionale perché è cantato a livello internazionale da molti artisti italiani, compresi Andrea Bocelli e, in modo particolare, Luciano Pavarotti, nel video sotto insieme alla grandissima cantante argentina, Mercedes Sosa, nel 1991. Ma pochi all’estero sanno chi l’aveva scritto.
Purtroppo, pochi dei nostri lettori all’estero avrebbero capito che la canzone esprime l’amore di Lucio Dalla verso Sorrento, la celebre città campana nominata nel brano.
“Caruso” fu scritta dopo un soggiorno in quella città in un albergo che ospitò Enrico Caruso prima della sua morte nel 1921. Dalla amava davvero la città e questo brano è indubbiamente una canzone d’amore verso il luogo.
Ora ascoltiamo questo brano conosciuto in tutto il mondo.
Di nuovo, anche in questo caso, l’italiano all’estero si troverà a identificarsi con la nostalgia che Caruso, e quindi Dalla, sentono fortemente a causa della lontananza dai luoghi importanti della loro vita.
Infatti, dobbiamo precisare che, nel caso dei nostri emigrati oltreoceano, moltissimi non si possono permettere di tornare in Italia regolarmente, e per non pochi addirittura solo dopo decenni, quindi, la loro immagine d’Italia, e particolarmente dei paesi dove sono nati e cresciuti, è di come erano nel passato, e, troppo spesso, al loro ritorno rimangono delusi perché, quasi sempre, sono totalmente cambiati nel corso di quegli anni di separazione.
E questo è un altro aspetto che pochi in Italia riescono a immaginare dei loro parenti e amici all’estero. Si, potrebbero anche parlare regolarmente al telefono, come nel passato si scambiavano regolarmente le lettere, ma mentre scrivi la lettera, o parli al telefono, tieni in mente il viso dei cari di molti anni prima, e non hai modo di vedere gli effetti di quegli stessi anni sui loro volti e, tristemente, anche i corpi, dei cari e, non raramente è solo al ritorno tanto sognato che ti rendi pienamente conto del vero prezzo pagato per aver deciso di trovare una vita nuova all’estero.
Inoltre, e per finire la presentazione di questo brano bellissimo, dobbiamo fare notare che il motivo per cui il pubblico internazionale non capisce la vera forza della canzone è proprio perché la sua potenza è nella bellezza delle parole e non solo nella musica stupenda e la bravura dei cantanti che la presentano al mondo.
Difatti, questo dovrebbe fare capire a tutti in Italia che insegnare la nostra lingua deve essere per forza il primo, e anche il più importante, mezzo per potere presentare e promuovere la nostra Cultura nel mondo perché, senza la capacità di capire i testi delle nostre canzoni, partendo dalla categoria più importante dei nostri cantanti, i cantautori, non riusciremo mai a fare capire al mondo l’importanza, e soprattutto la poesia, della nostra musica …
E questo vale altrettanto per il Cinema, la Letteratura e la Poesia.
Ora finiamo questo articolo con uno dei brani più divertenti di Lucio Dalla, “Attenti al lupo” che fa sempre sorridere, e che ha un messaggio importante per l’Anno Nuovo, di godere la vita con i nostri cari.

As we wait for 2025, we would like to present a song to our readers overseas that is sung every New Year’s Eve in Italy.
“L’anno che verrà” (The year to come), released in 1979, sums up the fears of an uncertain future, but gives hope that, “according to television”, as the song says, the new year will bring changes that will make life happier.
This song has a particular meaning for Italians overseas because it takes the form of a letter to a friend who is “very far away” and starts with the concerns about the state he is in because “something is wrong”. And from this it does not take much to understand that the addressee is in another country.
In fact, one of the things that creates problems between those who are in Italy and those overseas is that the emigrant does not see the changes in Italy over time, while the relatives/friends in Italy see little or nothing of what the emigrant and his family are going through in the new country.
Unlike “Imagine” by the great John Lennon in English, the iconic song of the future in the English-speaking world, Dalla does not dream of a “perfect world” but of the small, but fundamental changes that would make life easier for each of us.
These changes are not minor because, in many cases, starting with the “And we will make love, as he or she pleases” or that “the priests will be allowed to marry”, although “only at a certain age”, which deal with issues of intolerance to changes that many do not want to see in society, but which, at the same time, are in fact a reality of many of our relatives and friends, and so the comments reflect on how our mentality towards others must change in order to see this new world in “the year to come”.
The good wishes for the new year are in symbols for changes in the problems in Italy at the time, but they are perfect symbols to represent the daily difficulties that trouble life, both at work and in the home.
So, let us listen to this beautiful song, and important not only for Italain music, but also for our Culture.
Now let us take this opportunity to present two more songs by Lucio Dalla who, unfortunately, was never known overseas at the level his talent would have deserved.
Paradoxically, in presenting Lucio Dalla’s music, the second song is known internationally because it has been sung around the world by many Italian artists, including Andrea Bocelli and, most notably, Luciano Pavarotti, in the video below with the very great Argentinean singer Mercedes Sosa, in 1991. But few people overseas know who wrote it.
Unfortunately, few people overseas would have understood that the song expresses Lucio Dalla’s love for Sorrento, the famous city in Campania named in the song.
“Caruso” was written after a stay in that city in a hotel that hosted Enrico Caruso before his death in 1921. Dally really loved the city, and this song is undoubtedly a love song to the place.
Now let us listen to this world-renowned song.
Once again, even in this case Italians overseas will find themselves identifying with the nostalgia that Caruso, and therefore Dalla, felt strongly because of the distance from the important places of their lives.
In fact, we must point out that, in the case of our emigrants in other continents, a great many cannot afford to return to Italy regularly, and for not a few even only after decades, therefore, their image of Italy, and particularly of the towns where they were born and grew up, is of how they were in the past, and, all too often, upon their return they are disappointed because, almost always, they have totally changed over the years of separation.
And this is another aspect that few people in Italy can imagine about their relatives and friends overseas. Yes, they may speak regularly on the phone, like they regularly exchanged letters in the past, but, as you write the letter, or talk on the phone, in your mind you see the faces of your loved ones from many years before, and you have no way of seeing the effects of those same years on the faces and, sadly, even the bodies, of loved ones, and not infrequently only on the much dreamed of return do you fully realize the true price paid for having decided to start a new life overseas.
Furthermore, and to finish the presentation of this beautiful song, we must point out that the reason why the international audiences do not understand the real strength of the song is precisely because its power lies in the beauty of the lyrics and not only in the stupendous music and the skill of the singers who present it to the world.
In fact, this should make everyone in Italy understand that teaching our language must necessarily be the first and most important means of being able to present our Culture to the world because, without the ability to understand the lyrics of our songs, starting with the most important category of our singers, the cantautori (singer songwriters) we will never be able to make the world understand the importance, and the poetry, of our music…
And this applies just as much to our Cinema, Literature and Poetry.
Now let us finish this article with one of Lucio Dalla’s most enjoyable songs “Attenti al lupo” (Beware of the wolf) that always makes people smile, and has an important message for the New Year, to enjoy life with our loved ones.
